We were delighted to bring together children from schools across Learn-AT on Friday to celebrate International Day Of Democracy, an event started by the United Nations that is now celebrated in countries all over the world.
This year’s theme was ‘Empowering the Next Generation’, something we feel strongly about at Learn-AT, so it was great to welcome members of school councils from across our Trust who represent their peers and input ideas into decisions that impact them.
Children learnt about what a democracy is, why they are important and how our local and national governments work. They also found out who the local MPs are in our area.
Steve Roddy, Learn-AT's Director of Education, said “It was a pleasure to bring the school councils together to celebrate democracy and to think about how we can take on the challenge of ‘Empowering the Next Generation”
